01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
The aroma of meat slowly grilling over glowing charcoal brings a natural sense of occasion to the start of the meal. Tucked along a backstreet in Minami-Senju, Arakawa, Sumibi Yakiniku KEN serves carefully selected Kuroge Wagyu and a varied selection of side dishes in a calm setting.
Charcoal brings out the meat’s sweetness and texture
A good place to begin is with the premium beef tongue: thick-cut yet moist and tender. Choose a preparation to suit your taste, such as negi-jo-tan-shio with green onion or thick-cut jo-tan-shio. The intense heat of the charcoal sears the surface, locking in the meat’s abundant flavour. There is also a generous choice of less common cuts: red-meat options such as togarashi, whose sweetness develops with each bite, and rich-tasting harami, as well as misuji and zabuton, finely marbled cuts. Offal such as fresh mino and marucho is another carefully prepared option, simply enjoyed with salt.
Chijimi, soup and sides round out the meal
While the meat cooks, a classic kimchi assortment and namul offer a welcome change of pace, as does the generously thick seafood chijimi, grilled until fluffy. To finish, consider the carefully prepared gom-tang soup with oxtail, gom-tang gukbap, or refreshing chilled noodles.
A relaxed evening at the table
The restaurant is open from 17:00 to 22:30. With limited seating, the dining room is not overly noisy, creating a relaxed atmosphere for dinner and conversation. The drinks include draft beer, draft makgeolli and Korean soju, all suited to the grilled meats. Booking ahead is recommended.
